It may be wrong

The ownership data on this site is not a statement of fact, and is very likely to be wrong in places. That is not false modesty — it follows from how the graph is built.

• It is machine-derived. Entities and ownership links are imported automatically from public datasets that are themselves crowd-sourced and uneven.
• Percentages are often inferred, not audited. Where a source asserts that one company controls another without stating a figure, that is treated as full ownership at reduced confidence. Ownership is multiplied along a chain, so a single wrong link distorts everything beneath it.
• It goes stale. Companies are bought, sold and restructured constantly. A shareholding disclosed in a regulatory filing is accurate as of that filing and no later.
• It is incomplete by design. For most listed companies the known owners do not add up to the whole company, which is why each page shows how much of the company the listed owners actually account for. The remainder is simply unknown.

Treat every answer here as a lead to verify. Each claim carries citations — follow them. For anything that matters legally or financially, go to the primary source: the company's own filings, the relevant companies register, or the regulator.

Where it comes from

Ownership records are seeded from Wikidata, released under a CC0 public domain dedication, and from SEC EDGAR, which as a US government work is in the public domain. Corrections and additions from contributors will follow.

This data is not owned by Who Owns. Facts about who owns which company are not ours to own, and no ownership of them is claimed. Company logos are trademarks of their respective owners and are shown to identify the company they belong to.

The software that runs this site is a separate matter, and is proprietary.
